LAHORE, Pakistan - In the wake of revelations made in an inquiry report prepared by a five-member probe committee on the Murree tragedy, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Wednesday ordered the suspension of 15 officials for being negligent towards their duties.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the chief minister revealed the report's findings and said that many personnel had been removed and disciplinary action had been ordered against them.

Those suspended include officers from the district management, police, traffic police, forest department, Murree Rescue 1122, and Punjab Disaster Management Authority.

"The government has fulfilled its commitment of a transparent probe into the Murree tragedy," Buzdar said, adding that the inquiry report exposed the authorities' shortcomings.

On January 8, 23 people died from carbon monoxide poisoning while trapped in their cars due to heavy snowfall in Murree, stranding thousands of tourist vehicles.
