ILOILO CITY, Jan. 19 (PIA) - - Four out of the nine villages identified as insurgency affected in the municipality of Calinog, Iloilo have been declared cleared of Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).

The four villages are Binolusan Pequeno, Binolusan Grande, Supanga and Guinbunyugan, as announced by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) - Iloilo during an activity held on Friday, January 15.

The remaining five barangays that are either affected or threatened by insurgency are Marandig, Aglonok, Caratagan, Garangan and Masaroy.

During the event, the chiefs of the four CTG-cleared villages received Smart TVs for the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) from Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., DILG 6 Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero and DILG - Provincial Director Teodora Sumagaysay.

The TV Aralan Series is a strategy of the Local Government Resource Center of DILG 6 to further strengthen the CSP initiatives of the military and the support from the LGUs as part of the RCSP.

In a response, Calinog Municipal Administrator Rachel Manero acknowledged and thanked the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), Philippine National Police , Armed Forces of the Philippines, DILG, Governor Defenso, Sangguniang Panlalawigan and stakeholders for the recognition.

She said the incentive received by the village chiefs is an affirmation that they are on the right track in their efforts in pursuit of lasting peace.

"We have been longing for peace and order for so long a time, and we believed that it can only be done through arms and violence. Now, the government is showing how serious it is to combat armed conflict in the most peaceful means possible - through a whole of nation approach with the involvement not only of the Armed Forces of the Philippines but also of the Philippine National Police, the local government unit and the people," said Manero.

She also thanked the punong barabngays for taking the courage to stand up as she further commended Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Renato Landazabal for his commitment to cascade initiatives to the barangay level and for bridging the realizations of the project.

"Now, the challenge lies on the Punong Barangays, to us at the LGU -- to sustain the record and the recognition," said Manero as she expressed in behalf of Mayor Francisco Calvo their continued commitment to support all projects, programs, and endeavors of the government to keep and maintain peace in their municipality.
