Not long after establishing their new identity, CF Montreal added a new defender in a trade with the Houston Dynamo on Monday.
No longer known as the Montreal Impact, the new CF Montreal picked up center back Kiki Struna, 30, in exchange for forward Maxi Urruti, who will turn 30 in February.
CF Montreal also received a 2021 foreign player spot in the deal, while Houston received a second-round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.
"We are very pleased to add a large central defender to our defensive line," CF Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard said. "He has experience in MLS and international level, as well as having played several years in Italy. I would also like to thank Maxi for the two seasons with us and wish him all the best for the rest of his career in Houston. raquo;
Urruti scored nine goals in 46 appearances in Montreal the past two seasons and has 53 career MLS goals in eight seasons, having also played for Toronto FC, the Portland Timbers and FC Dallas. Struna, who previously played at Palermo in Italy, had one point in 46 appearances for the Dynamo the past two seasons.
"Maxi knows first-hand what it takes to be a champion in MLS and has consistently scored goals since he arrived in the league," Dynamo coach Tab Ramos said. "He brings quality, speed and a tremendous work ethic."
