ISLAMABAD, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- A terrorist attack at Pakistani security forces in Pakistan's northwest tribal district of South Waziristan left an army officer killed, Pakistan's army said Monday night.
The Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the army, said in a statement that an army officer was killed after terrorists opened fire at security forces while they were conducting patrolling to check terrorists' move at Shakai area of the district Sunday night.
The area was cordoned off for clearance operation, the statement said.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Pakistani military had conducted a series of operations against terrorist groups in South Waziristan in recent years. Although the area has mostly been pacified, remnants of terrorist groups still manage to launch attacks on security forces.
