CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 8 (PIA) - A total of 117 Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) from Manila were transported to Region 10 through the government's "Hatid Tulong Program."
The LSIs, who traveled for three days aboard buses from Luzon via the Roll-on Roll-Off vessels passing through Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas and CARAGA Region, arrived yesterday, July 7, at 6:30 in the morning.
All the LSIs disembarked at the University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines (USTP) here where they were fetched by their respective local government units (LGUs).
"Three days ago, the Hatid Tulong kicked off in Manila. Thousands of LSIs were sent off to their respective provinces including those in Visayas and Mindanao. Now there are seven buses that arrived here in Cagayan de Oro bringing-10 the LSIs of our region," Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Rosauro Gonzales said.
Upon their arrival, the LSIs were met by OCD-10 and the Department of the Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). While the OCD attends to foot traffic, the DSWD distributes relief supplies cotaining six kilos of rice, six canned goods and six packs cookies.
"We would like to request their respective LGUs that, if possible, these LSIs be fetched within 24 hours because that is our objective [to send them home]. We really need to bring them to their hometown," RD Gonzales concluded.
The Hatid Tulong of the Office of the President jumped-started last July 4, aimed at sending the (LSIs) from Manila back to their respective provinces. (JAKArana/PIA10)
