ZAMBOANGA CITY, October 16 (PIA) - Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go officially turned over the initial P5-million fund to Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) for the operation of the 14th Malasakit Center that was launched here last Saturday (October 13).

"When people get sick, the main problem is financial support," Go said, highlighting that with the Masakit Center, this will no longer be a problem. The Malasakit Center will ease the difficulty of securing financial assistance by providing a one-stop shop where all government financial assistance for medical purposes will be housed.

Services from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will be in the Malasakit Center to accommodate the patients with a special fast lane for indigenous peoples, senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs).

"As much as possible, we want to lower the patient's medical bills," Go added.

Meanwhile, Go also visited the ZCMC ward where he extended immediate cash assistance from the Office of the President to patients. Go witnessed the pitiful situation of the patients in ZCMC and announced the newly signed Republic Act 11087 by President Rodrigo Duterte increasing the bed capacity of ZCMC from 500 to 800.

Asmad Jamali, one of the patients who received the immediate cash assistance expressed his gratitude to the President in helping the poor people. "We hope that you continue helping us," he said.

Malasakit Center is a program of President Duterte that aims to improve medical services and give free medicines to poor patients. Furthermore, they plan to open more Malasakit Centers in different parts of the Philippines to extend assistance to people in dire need. (ALT/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
