North Korea invites US for nuclear negotiations
Pakistan News.Net Tuesday 25th August, 2009
Nuclear negotiations are in the offing between North Korea and the US, with an invitation from the communist nation for US envoys to visit.
North Korea recently offered the invitation to Stephen Bosworth, special envoy to North Korea, and chief nuclear negotiator Sung Kim.
The US administration is believed to be considering the matter, with September the most likely time for the parties to meet.
It is understood the high-level diplomatic group could meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il during the visit.
It would be the first nuclear meeting between the two countries under the presidency of Barack Obama.
Washington has been pressuring Pyongyang to dismantle its nuclear programs, threatening stringent implementation of the UN sanctions against the North after its May 25th nuclear test. Email this story to a friend
